sweet maddie

Photographed this little peanut today. Smiles were few and far between, but it's OK. Her seriously cute chubby cheeks more than made up for it.

Before I even met this family I liked them.  You see, Ben was going to be Madeleine if he was a girl.  So I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Maddies.

Here are my favorites from the morning.

eat your veggies

Apparently I really am a city girl. I had no idea that brussel sprouts grew on stalks!

So cool. Makes me want to try to grow these myself someday.

Way too shallow on the DOF here.  Too tired to do over tonight.  I have a the equivalent of a lead foot when it comes to aperature. Always going so low. Too low sometimes!

just get in the car

Best things about a spontaneous road trip:

no itinerary.  Hey, you wanna stop at the silly little cut out face thing on the side of the road?  ok.

learning funny little tidbits about your spouse of 7 years.  you know, like where he lived in college, where he took classes, specific bushes where he threw up in.. all that good stuff.

taking a break from being in the city... and seeing the weird things that go on out in the country.
That's a Dead & Breakfast, in case you can't read it.

last but not least, quality time with the kids.  confined in a car, or out in the great outdoors. it's all good.

Do I sense a pattern here?

Pattern and repetition is one of the basic elements of composition.  Lucky for photographers, patterns are everywhere.  Up. Down. All around.   Repetitive patterns in photography create a certain movement that the eyes enjoy following.  Patterns alone are a bit ho-hum.  The trick is to find a cool subject and use pattern to complement the subject in a unique way.

Here are some patterns I found in town today...

how we've grown

Almost exactly 6 months ago today I met the Born Family.  It was such a treat to see them again and to see how their family has changed since the spring.  I have to admit it was also a lot of fun to realize how much I've grown, too!  In my life as a photographer, I am still a baby, but I think one of the most important things I can do is recognize this and to keep working hard to improve my images.  I am proud of how much I've learned this year and how far I've come since meeting this family.

The weather was touch and go today but we made the most of it.  A romp around the pond at Larz Anderson is always an adventure. Especially with energetic Zack & sweet little Katie.
